Buttermilk candy
Buttermilk candy recipe in the candy category
Recipe ingredients:
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons corn syrup
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups nuts
Recipe method:
- Add baking soda to buttermilk in 4 quart saucepan.
- Stir well and let stand 1 minute.
- Add sugar, corn syrup and butter.
- Cook to soft ball stage, 236 degrees F to 238 degrees F on candy thermometer.
- Add vanilla extract and nuts.
- Beat by hand until candy begins to thicken.
- Pour onto buttered cookie sheet.
- Let cool and cut into pieces.
- This is similar to a pecan praline and breaks into irregular pieces.
